Obviously a cause synonymous with Edwards, creating an actual position would really help Obama with some of the lower income, non-college educated crowd. It would be a huge step in showing voters that he cares about this issue and wasn't just pandering for Edwards' endorsement. And why not promise to make it cabinet level once he's elected.

Hillary's bad idea

Creating a new position with no direct control over Federal agencies will be as ineffective as our many "Drug Czars". Edwards could do more to cut poverty as Attorney General or Secretary of the Interior.
Semantics matter

Are we talking about those living in poverty, or are we talking about the working poor (those who are struggling to stay out of poverty)? Or both? But don't conflate them. The working poor are struggling mightily to not end up in poverty & need to distinguish themselves from that great fear/great reality. I don't mean to suggest prioritizing or privileging one group over another, I just think being clear about this role & its function will help its efficacy, natch.
Nah

I see nothing about this idea which suggests it would be a real position with real value. If someone makes a case that there is something Edwards could really do with such a position, I might favor it, but right now I am unconvinced.
Edwards for Atty. General

There's no need for a figurehead, do-nothing position, and the other commentor is correct, czar is the WRONG name.
Most of the problem of poverty is actually due to unprosecuted illegal corporate activity. As AG, He can pursue the defense of the downtrodden by throwing the bums in jail.
Ok, but don't call it a CZAR

Create a "poverty commission", or a "wealth building committee", or anything but a CZAR..
