One of the great things about PBS's Convention coverage was hearing from Jimmy Carter, Fritz Mondale, as well as the speeches of Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy. The President could establish a practice of inviting former Presidents and other retired pols in for coffee... affirming that all the best ideas won't necessarily come from the youngest folks.

While I agree that having good advisors is always important, it's also important to be decisive, and to appear decisive. These folks are all good resources, however, I disagree that publicizing in any way that these past people are giving advice is a good idea. Better to put good people on his cabinet, and limit the official advice to those people.
Another aspect of this is that, while we don't want another insular President, we don't want an over-advised president either. Too many cooks in the kitchen, in a way, will be bad. That was the problem with Kerry - he listened to too many people, instead of knowing his own mind, and got up into his head. If we want to win, then Obama needs to stay focused on his idea of what a president should be and do.
