Obama Should Announce A Role for Hillary in His Administration

Obama should go ahead and announce what Senator Clinton's role will be in his administration. Will she direct his healthcare initiative? Serve as Secretary of State?

This would be a crucial moment to pledge to use Senator Clinton's undeniable talents and bring some disgruntled Clinton holdouts into the fold.

Hillary's role?

Anonymous 11 weeks 2 days 2 hours 41 min ago

Kicking ass and taking names!

Oh, that's not an official role? Okay then.

Heading up the panel on getting a healthcare plan through. That's her baby. That'd pacify her, inspire her electorate, and would just be smart delegating.

She'd be more effective as a

She'd be more effective as a leader in the Senate.

I agree

jackerman1205 11 weeks 2 days 4 hours 38 min ago

I agree. If Obama starts naming his cabinet members it will be seen as a cocky, arrogant move, and will be pounced on by McCain. What Obama needs to do to win over more Hillary supporters is get her more active in his campaign, and have her appear with him, in support of him, more frequently.

Not at this time

GarrettKR 11 weeks 2 days 15 hours 11 min ago

The election is still young. It is just getting started. Announcing who is on your cabinet at this point is like telling America, "I already know I'm going to win, so here's how it is going to happen." It sounds arrogant and ignorant. I believe Hillary would be an amazing member of cabinet and would really do great things, but listen to Hillary's speach at the DNC! You were not voting for her because she was a woman, but because of what she believed in. The closest thing we can get to her leadership is through Obama. I'm sure she will get what is due to her when Obama does win the election.

It's Against the Law

Anonymous 11 weeks 4 days 1 hour 23 min ago

You can't announce members of your administration prior to becoming the President. It's illegal.

Appoint Hillary to the Cabinet!

Anonymous 11 weeks 4 days 5 hours 56 min ago

I agree! I can't fully support Obama unless/until he gives Hillary a meaningful role in his future administration.

clintons

ssanders4917 11 weeks 4 days 6 hours 5 min ago

I am getting tired of the Clintons. We all know she will be running for president again, so you know she will probably be on the cabinet if it will benefit her in the future. I also hope we don't see Bill ever wanting to be on the supreme court. We all know the clintons just used the black population in 92, and in 2008 when they went for someone else the clintons pulled a race card

She's Already in the Senate

Magesa 11 weeks 4 days 7 hours 17 min ago

She's got a very high profile, important job already, and she doesn't need to be an object of his charity.

The appropriate response to Palin is not, "Hey, I've got a women too (in a less pretigious position)!" It's to point out how ridiculous, fake, and insulting the choice of Palin is.

While Hillary Clinton could be quite valuable in Obama's administration, it should certainly be first determined if Hillary would be more valuable to the nation to remain as a senator.

A Great Oppertunity to be Very Sepcific on Healthcare

DavidDoesDC 11 weeks 4 days 15 hours 25 min ago

Counter arguments that Change is just an empty word by focusing on Universal Healthcare that Obama and Clinton will achieve. Bring this issue to the forefront because McCain is way behind on health care, still giving the tired old Republican line.

Hillary Clinton's Role

Anonymous 11 weeks 4 days 15 hours 25 min ago

What is crucial is "What does Hillary Clinton want to do?" Many good ideas here, but I think Senator Obama should ask Hillary and listen. They can work out together what would be the best use of her talents.

No cabinet position.

mthespian 11 weeks 4 days 15 hours 53 min ago

Senator Clinton is good at getting things done in the Senate. Now what would be useful is for him to sit down with Senator Clinton and draft what they think the Health Care Bill looks like.

Then at the next time that the two are together Hillary can slip in mention of this along with her "President Obama signs the Universal Health Care Bill", then when Obama take the podium he can say that he looks forward to signing the Clinton Healthcare for Employees and Employers Reorganization Act. (Okay, it's just a quick acronym but the point is for him to brand the initiative with her name. I think most of middle america thinks the "Hillarycare" they hated before is a good idea now.)

i disagree strongly with

rez 11 weeks 4 days 16 hours 12 min ago

i disagree strongly with jtk. palin was pandering because there were no obvious credentials. it was just a clumsy and insulting gimmick to get people talking about him, and would also throw everyone in media for a loop about projections, effects, and precedent.
hillary is as far from palin as you can get: she is not a gimmick, she is not a pawn. and selecting her for the kind of role megmdyer is talking about would be an informed and extremely productive one. all obama would have to do is not single her out and go "look look! i have one too!"

the mccain camp may come up with their own insults about it, but it'd be pretty feeble.

Yes he SHOULD!

Anonymous 11 weeks 4 days 17 hours 23 min ago

Obama/Biden should help, not only in New Orleans, but the outlying area as well...but stress the importance of the American Spirit during this rebuilding time (after Gustav).

They might want to considering having a well-organized plan for Cabinet members and doing ads with Hillary that appeal to women who are staunch Clinton backers that have thrown support toward McCain. If they truly supported Clinton and believed in her, they'll vote for Obama. Palin is the polar opposite in all ways but one.

not sure

glimpse 11 weeks 4 days 17 hours 27 min ago

is he planning on announcing who would be in his cabinet anyway? if he does announce a position for clinton, i hope he announces other people too so it's not a focus on clinton again.

I disagree

jtk 11 weeks 4 days 17 hours 27 min ago

I wouldn't do this. It would be pandering, in the same way that McCain's choice of Palin is pandering. So she's a woman, so what? It was a qualified woman that the Hillary supporters responded to, someone who spoke about their issues. Palin is not that. I don't believe that Hillary supporters are so stupid that they won't see Palin through McCain, and I think they would be furious in response to such an announcement by Obama.

Moreover McCain's camp will use it against him, saying it is presumptuous! That could start a whole new round of criticism.

Senator Clinton---Secretary of State

washingtonrr 11 weeks 4 days 19 hours 15 min ago

I believe that Senator Clinton would make a great Secretary of State. The only drawback is that it would take her away from being a powerful force in the Senate.

Hillary's role

megmdyer 11 weeks 4 days 20 hours 3 min ago

Hillary has always been an advocate for health care and equal rights for women. I think it would be more appropriate to have her in a role concerning these issues.

Supreme Court is perfect

thomthom9 11 weeks 4 days 20 hours 55 min ago

she knows the law, she is progressive, and she has a very public position that can help people for life!

this sounds good, but...

Anonymous 11 weeks 4 days 21 hours 10 min ago

is it practical? Clinton may not want to be secretary of health or some such. some have said she would be interested in the supreme court, but Obama can't announce that. it seems to me that she would prefer something with more power to it. Although nobody has mentioned sect. of defense. that might be a very interesting choice, although one wonders if she has the right qualifications, but it would be interesting. Hey, how about Bill Clinton as sect. of defense? Or maybe Colin Powell. Now that would be an announcement. Powell is a true soldier - he made some mistakes, but he was misled. He was a sober voice in the Bush administration.

In any case, most of the power positions that Clinton would want are in the Senate, and Obama can't grant them.

One other thing - since it'll be probably 8 years before clinton can run again if Obama wins, maybe she should run for Governor of NY. Obama could help her win that, and then she'd be ready for Pres. Don't know how Biden would feel about that, but he may not want President after 8 years of VP.

He should say that he would

ltofolo 11 weeks 4 days 21 hours 19 min ago

He should say that he would like to see Hillary on the supreme court.
