While campaigning in the "red" states, Obama needs to empower the people with the idea that their votes are not a foregone conclusion. He needs to emphasize the audacity of Republicans who make assumptions that just because historically certain states have voted in certain patterns that it is the power of the people to decide in this unprecedented election. For example, just as the "South" has been solidy Republican since the 60s (after voting solidly Democratic since the Civil War) does not mean that in this historical election there can't be a new shift in party affiliations. I agree if you look at the results for Texas the largest (red) state in 04. Bush won by about 1.7 million voters or about 14% of the population. I can easily imagine that.
