Keep the Obama logo and visual identity for the general

Many nominees abandon the logo and look that they used for the primary when they become the party's nominee. Obama's visual identity has been so effective that they should not change it.

I agree with the previous poster. I like his logo, I think he should keep it, I'm sure he will, but this idea, no offense to the person who posted it, isn't nearly as important as things like focusing on a "New Green Deal" or other suggestions. So I had to vote it down, not that it matters, because it is way up there.

Being able to change your vote would be good. Luckily here it cancels, since I was trying to vote the idea down (I don't dislike the logo and such, I just think that if this site is going to have any modicum of influence it shouldn't be squandered on something so trivial.

not a chance

look, people may be attached emotionally to the existing logo but it has several flaws.

1. It's too many colors. It was the design of an amateur volunteer, and while it's since been refined the logo everyone loves on the web is a full color logo. That's expensive to reproduce and difficult to reproduce in some media. Sure he has more money than God, but he doesn't have to waste it because of a poor technical execution.

2. The serif font is a little weak for a Dem. Sorry to burst jhr's bubble, but middle weight serif fonts don't convey strength. Maybe if it was heavier, maybe if were a clarendon serif that was slabbed off, but this face smacks of wussy elitist liberal candidates past, i.e. John Kerry. In the general he'll need to move to the center and from a political branding perspective that means moving from transitional, didone or venetian serifs. To keep a light feel more in line with the brand they should probably move to humanistic sans like gotham in a decent weight. That seems all the rage in our progressive circles these days.

3. It'll be time for a new brand to say this is a fresh start after the rancor and in-fighting of the primaries. There should be a break in the brand that indicates a move forward toward unity and against Walnuts.

4. Finally, HE'LL HAVE A RUNNING MATE. As much as Jesus is the main character, this messiah 2.0 has some weak points that will need serious shoring up if he's to pick up Reagan Dems, red staters and hard-working white voters, he'll need to heavily incorporate a name like Webb, Strickland, Sebilus, et.al into the general's brand. The logo will need to remind folks who think, "wow I really like his message of change, but have concerns he can pull it off or he'll screw things up due to inexperience..." that there's a strong and experienced hand aiding his. A logo that says Obama has a non-evil Cheney to his green, new to the federal arena Bush.

Now no logo is going to seriously affect the general, but these things should be addressed to at least prevent the logo from being a drag, however minor, on the ticket. That's my 99ยข.

In total agreement

I hate the concept of "branding" a candidate, but it's a reality.

The branding of Obama has been a masterpiece of graphic design. To scrap this in the general would be folly.

The only other brand that comes close to such instant recognition and beauty is Apple. Now, I hate to make that comparison because Apple has such a low market share (though they do have a lock on the MP3 player market).

Obama's designers deserve a immense amount of credit, everything from the serif font of his name, which is both elegant and bold, to the recurring circles, including the fields as stripes of the flag, which are patriotic without being maudlin.

Contrast and compare with McCain. His logo looks like the brand name for some kind of frozen food in the 60's, which he is, in a way. He is only now defrosting.

Whoops, meant to vote positive 1 on that one

Wish I could make a retroactive adjustment, there

Change a little

I think some adding some red to the logo would be a good symbol of his commitment to reach out to republican voters.
