Barack Obama needs to either release a TV ad where he directly talks about Bill Ayers or address the issue at a news conference or in a speech. He needs to say that Ayers committed the crimes when Obama was eight, that Ayers had the charges against him dropped in 1974, and that Ayers is now a college professor who is highly respected in the Chicago community.

McCain is about to start a personal war. Having given up trying to sell America on himself, he will spend the next four weeks trying to tear down Obama and scare the country into voting for him. The tactic boils down to this: Obama is dangerous/bad person/whatever because of the people with whom he associates. The counter: McCain is dangerous for who he is, which is far worse.
