Game Changing Speech: "Our sons and daughters are dying for oil."

Obama should give a high profile speech that redefines the accepted understanding of our various wars. He should draw a distinction between the war in Iraq and the "war on terror." The war in Iraq should be painted as a criminal offense by the republican for the purpose of war profiteering and securing oil reserves.

Constructive Fear Mongering: Global Warming

If fear mongering is going to win this election, might as well be constructive. Scare the hell out of people with the possible results of global warming. And do it quickly, so Palin's views look dangerous in the debates. This kind of rhetoric could win Florida. (Super-hurricanes, etc.)

Off-shore drilling - Not so short-term gains/potential long-term costs

Continue to point out the fallacies of off-shore drilling. But also follow this up with the simple fact that drilling in the gulf coast is a very risky situation considering the increased number of hurricanes over recent years. If these new drilling platforms are damaged, speculators could use that to drive up oil prices. Could feed off of the Gustav hysteria

Hurricane Season and the McCain Record on Katrina

Since it is hurricane season why not point out the dismal record of McCain voting against almost every measure that would have helped Katrina victims properly? Michael Moore outlined, in his most recent blog, exactly was McCain voted on which seems to contradict everything that his is implying now on how he would help new hurricane victims.

The Gulf Coast dodged a bullet with Gustav...

...and we might not be as lucky next time. Barack should remind everyone of how little has been done since Katrina, and propose a massive public works project to build a levee and flood-prevention system comparable to that of the Netherlands. It'll be expensive, but probably not more than a few months in Iraq. And, of course, it will generate lots of jobs.

Hurricanes + Offshore Drilling = Bad combination...

Why rely heavily on offshore drilling which could in an instant be disrupted by a storm like Gustav. We WILL see an effect from this and other storms, and it only emphasizes why we should be focusing on renewable and safer forms of energy. Oil is NOT the answer.

Disaster Response

Of course we should all do what we can to help the people of the Gulf Coast get through the crises caused by ever more frequent and powerful hurricanes. I believe, however, that Barack should be looking to the future by declaring that in an Obama administration, the director of FEMA will be a qualified emergency response professional, and not a political boot-licker.

Hurricanes and winning Florida

For better or worse, hurricane season and the final stretch of election season coincide. At least in Florida, this is an issue on voters' minds that goes ignored in campaigns. Turning hurricanes into an election issue could pull major sway in Florida. Hurricanes should play to Democrats for a number of reasons:
