If asked, Sen. Obama should state that speculators are a natural part of free markets, and avoid scapegoating them the way both left and right-wingers have done. Speculators are no more at fault for high prices of Old Dead Stuff (fossil fuels) than they were responsible for low prices in the past. Sen. Obama stood against the gas tax holiday gimmick, and shouldn't fall into this trap either.

Call fossil fuels "Old Dead Stuff"
Sen. Obama should embrace the term "Old Dead Stuff" explaining that fossil fuels are the history of energy, not the future. Reserves of Old Dead Stuff are limited and demand for energy is growing, meaning continued use guarantees long term price escalation. Using Earth's remaining supply of Old Dead Stuff would also change the climate and devastate natural resources. Sen.
