Answering the Surge Question at the Debate
At the upcoming debate - McCain is inevitably going to say - Why won't Obama admit the surge worked? I would answer in the following way - rhetorically - why won't McCain admit the war was a mistake to begin with. I would also mention that for all his experience - why doesn't McCain know who the president of Spain is or that Czechoslovakia ceased to be a country after the fall of the USSR?

John McCain said " We have won Afghanistan" 4 yrs ago, Barack said we still needed to send more troops. Barack was Right, John McCain was wrong.
John McCain supported the war in iraq, barack voted against that. Barack was Right, John McCain was wrong. Now we are in worse threat from terror than we were before the Iraq war in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

Palin cites Barack as having said last night that the surge has worked "beyond our wildest dreams." Did that really happen? If so, FOR GOD'S SAKE, SENATOR, please stop doing that.

McCain touts his proposal for a surge in Iraq. What's the point of sending in more Americans and money to a war not worth fighting, or a war that just makes oil companies richer and Americans poorer? How is a trillion dollar war on people who didn't attack us justified?

Since the McCain campaign has spun the surge in Iraq as a success even though the political objectives weren't reached, we need a simple response to that assertion. The Obama campaign should respond when asked whether the surge has been successful, "I would say the surge was successful when the troops are home!" Leave it at that, cue the big applause from the audience.
