According to the majority of polling, Barack Obama had very little chance to win Texas. The electoral votes in Texas add up to 34. You may see where I am going with this.

Even if Obama doesn't win Texas, he will make his opponent spend money somewhere that should be Ruby Red. Also, Killeen Texas, is the city adjacent to the largest military installation in the world.

Read more »One of John McCain's strongest areas with independents and centrist democrats is his support for immigration reform. If Obama emphasized his immigration plan with say, a tour of border states, he could effectively win over fence-sitters on that issue.
Read more »Texas is, for the first time in decades, a possible swing state. McCain's lead is currently in single digits and this will only narrow when Hillary drops out of the race. If Obama put enough resources in Texas, he could win the state and that could make up for losses in several smaller states.
