The northeast and western states which have consistently voted democrat in recent elections. This campaign should focus on the rest of the country, specifically places with electoral voting power.Many of these places are in more poverty than the western and eastern states and thus should be focused in on with Obama's stance on the economy.

Take back the South and the Reagan Democrats
I feel John McCain's best bet was to choose a VP from the south, considering there are a few long standing red states that did not take to McCain in the primaries. With a conservative 3rd party candidate in the mix, I think states such as Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and Louisiana could possibly be very close for a blue win.

The Obama campaign should deploy Tom Daschle and John Edwards all throughout the south and mid-West on a Values Tour. Although he is NOT his running mate, he'd be better served shoring up votes for Barack Obama as a surrogate strategically deployed to turn swing-states out of Republican strongholds.
This would really have the GOP and McCain campaign on edge.

One of John McCain's strongest areas with independents and centrist democrats is his support for immigration reform. If Obama emphasized his immigration plan with say, a tour of border states, he could effectively win over fence-sitters on that issue.
