If McCain tries to attack Obama's character at the debate tonight, Obama should turn to the people in the town hall and say this:
"Let's take a vote. All of you who want to listen to us smear each other all night, raise your hands. All of you who want to hear us talk about the issues that you face today, raise your hands."
Read more »McCain bailed on the debate. In the meantime, I think Obama should start holding more town-hall style Q&A sessions with the public while pushing this message. He can listen to everyday peoples' problems and talk with them about how his plan for America will help those particular individuals with those specific issues. It's a very populist approach, but that seems to be working this campaign year.

The networks debates are so watered down and staged how they want it, why not have Obama take on the offer and make public appearances that are not nationally televised, but address the issues in a proper debate forum?
